In addition to individual provider appointments, many of our programs also offer special group events and workshops!

Workshops

Caregivers Workshop

    • About:

      • Caring for a family member or friend with a chronic condition can be physically, emotionally, and financially draining. This highly effective, evidenced-based, self-care educational program for family caregivers builds the skills caregivers need to take better care of themselves as they provide care for others.

      • Presented in partnership with the Central East LHIN Self-Management Program. 

    • Who:

      • Anyone is eligible

      • Pre-registration is required.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Program:

    • About:

      • CBT focuses on developing skills to manage depression and anxiety and is facilitated in person over a 6-week period. Participants will learn evidence-based CBT strategies to manage mood and anxiety and practice these skills. This program is best suited for individuals 18+ who experience mild to moderate depression or anxiety and who are motivated to participate in home practice.

    • Who:

      • All clients living in the North Durham Community

      • Pre-registration is required

    • No referral required. All clients can self-refer to the program

    • The program takes place in the Lower Level Boardroom of the North Durham Health Centre.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) Program:

    • About:

      • Non-pharmacological therapy for the treatment of insomnia.

      • CBT-I focuses on non-pharmacological therapy for the treatment of insomnia and is facilitated in person over a 6-week period. This is an evidence-based approach that has proven to be more effective in treating insomnia long term than both over the counter and prescription sleep medications. Participants will learn CBT-I strategies to create better sleep efficiency. This program is best suited for individuals 18+ who experience insomnia and are motivated to make changes to their sleep habits. CBT-I is not suitable for those who are diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or untreated or inadequately treated Sleep Apnea.

    • Who:

      • All clients living in the North Durham Community.

      • Pre-registration is required.

    • No referral required. All clients can self-refer to the program.

    • The program takes place in the Lower Level Boardroom of the North Durham Health Centre.

Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Pain:

    • About:

      • Do you live with challenges and complications because of chronic Pain?

      • A free online or in-person six week workshop series that helps people with chronic pain to better cope with pain symptoms and activities of daily life. Caregivers are welcome to register.

      • Presented in partnership with the Central East LHIN Self-Management Program.

    • Who:

      • Anyone is eligible

      • Pre-registration is required.

    • No referral required.

Make Peace with Food Program

    • About:

      • Exploring Mindfulness and Intuitive Eating.

        • Do you want to break up with dieting and heal your relationship with food?

        • Do you want to be able to eat all your favourite foods and feel satisfied?

        • Do you want to ditch the rules and restrictions and learn to trust your body?

      • Join us to learn more about the non-diet approach to health and wellness.

      • In this course, taught by a registered dietitian and a mental health therapist, you will learn how to trust your body to guide you in determining when, what, and how much to eat.

      • We will explore in a group setting how to break free from dieting rules so that you may choose to eat the foods you love to satisfy your body and mind.

    • Who:

      • This 6-week course is open to anyone with a family physician at Medical Associates of Port Perry or a nurse practitioner at North Durham Family Health Team.

      • Pre-registration is required.

      • Free to attend

    • Your family physician or nurse practitioner can refer you, however a referral is not required

Walking for Wellness

    • About:

      • The purpose of this program is to build strong community connections while improving social, emotional and physical health, and enjoying the outdoors.

      • Walking for Wellness is a weekly drop-in walking program

    • Who:

      • All clients living in the North Durham Community

    • No referral required.

    • Drop-in and weather permitting. 

    • This program runs every Tuesday afternoon starting at 1:30PM from the Palmer Park Gazebo in Port Perry. 

    • All walking abilities are welcome.
